Michael Joins the Bloggers World

Well, here I am. I finally decided that it's time for me to join the blogging world. Probably in part, this is due to Elder M. Russell Ballard's counsel on blogs. As of now, I have just started my last semester of studying in the Meteorology and Mathematics departments at the University of Utah, graduating in May. Well, I think that's a good start on me. As news comes, I'll let you know.

In case you're interested, here is the story printed on the LDS News Page, which is a top story on their Home Page.

Wow. I'm impressed. Can't wait to see what you add in the future. In fact, you inspired me...it would be fun to have a blog....

Blogging is fun. I had no idea that there was any trepidation on behalf of church members about blogging. Shows you how much I care about keeping up with "Mormon Culture". But hey, if it's got an apostle's approval, even better.
The most important thing, in my opinion, is not to wait for an apostle to say what you should or shouldn't do and then act, rather to be guided by the principles you (and the apostle) know to be true.
(This should not be taken as criticism.)
See the 13th Article of Faith. Also the fact that we are supposed to keep a journal. I am horrible at that, but my blog does, at least a little, track my life events.

I understood Elder Ballard's comments as endorsing blogs as a method for spreading the gospel. That's a little bit scarier because gospel-related blogs tend to attract the internet trolls a little more. Or even if not, at least lively discussions that easily lead to fringe-doctrines and non-doctrines. I can definitely see why such a statement from an apostle can be considered, if not a big deal, at least a larger-than-average deal. :)
